This dredger is, with the exception of the cutter head, is comparable with the cutter suction dredger. The rotation axe of the bucket wheel is perpendicular with the ship axe. The wheel contains 10 – 14 open or closed buckets. Due to the construction of the drive the wheel is difficult to replace and therefore less universal than the cutter suction dredger.
Is application area is the same as the cutter dredger with the exception of hard rock. This dredger is often used in areas with constant conditions, such as the sea mining.
This ship is a small bucket wheel type dredger, with the bucket wheel cutting, crushing soil, forming mud, and then by the diesel engine driven mud pump suction and conveying to the designated place. The ship has wide adaptability to soil and high efficiency. Suitable for hard soil, such as clay, gravel, fine sand and general silt. Mud pump, bucket wheel are made of high temperature resistant grinding materials, bucket wheel, positioning pile lifting, transverse winch, bridge winch are all hydraulic drive, the hydraulic system is controlled by solenoid reversing valve. The control system is centrally controlled in the control room. The ship can be equipped with anchor rod, trolley and other devices. The ship's bucket wheel drive device is lubricated with oil and independently positioned metal floating seal ring seal device.

Bucket wheel cutting method and the chain bucket dredging bucket similar, it combines the advantages of the chain bucket and reamer two devices. Bucket excavating wheel device is mainly composed of rotary bucket wheel, roller bearing type driving shaft, steel mud hopper and mud suction pipe and other main components. The rotary bucket wheel is composed of a number of steel bottomless bucket and two combustion assembly ring welding into a whole; The side of the non-bottom mud bucket is equipped with a detachable wear-resistant blade, so that the blade can be easily replaced after wear. The rotating direction of the rotary bucket wheel excavator is longitudinal, driven by a number of low-speed, high-torque, radial piston hydraulic motors (or motors). The fixed type does not rotate by the mud bucket, is installed in the internal rotary bucket wheel, the use of steel welding structure, in its easy to wear parts, but also equipped with a replaceable anti-wear plate.
When the bucket wheel excavates the sediment in the underwater soil layer, the bucket wheel rotates. When the bottom mud bucket is turned to the lower part, the soil layer sediment is excavated and loaded into the mud bucket. When the bottomless bucket continues to rotate the top part, the dredged sediment contained in the bucket passes through the opening at the bottom end of the bucket (bottomless), and is forced to discharge into the fixed bucket between two rotating rings by the action of a fixed scraper. In this way, it can make each rotating bottomless hopper excavated and carried sediment, almost all can be poured into its fixed hopper, the mixture of sediment and water through the hopper into the suction suction pipe, and finally is sucked by the mud pump. Authoritative statistics based on practical effects , when digging hard soil, the bucket wheel has a 2:1 to 3:1 productivity ratio compared to the basic reamers, and the mud concentration can reach 30 to 33%, while the general reamers are only about 15%.
Bucket wheel and general reamer compared with the following advantages:
(1) the bucket wheel has no bucket bottom, mining performance is good, the cutting force of the bucket wheel is larger than the reaper, suitable for digging hard soil and dense sand, and for all kinds of soil, can obtain continuous high concentration of production.
(2) the bucket wheel dredging flatness is better, the bucket wheel leakage is less.
(3) a scraper is installed on the bucket wheel, which can include the residual soil stuck on the bucket body into the suction chamber.
(4) The dredging is not affected by the change of swing direction, and can be continuously and effectively excavated, and the direction of mud cutting is always bottom-up.
(5) in the dredging operation smooth operation, vibration and noise are very small.
(6) the total installed power can be reduced compared with the general cutter suction dredger.
